We were honoured to receive a second visit by the Lord Mayor & Lady Mayoress
on Friday 4th September 2009.

The first Lord Mayor of Bristol
In 1899, Queen Victoria granted a Lord Mayoralty to Bristol, and during her visit to the City in that year, she knighted Herbert Ashman, who then served for a second year, this time as the first Lord Mayor.
Ever since 1899, Bristol has had a Lord Mayor.

We are delighted that our residents association in Kensington Road won the award in the ‘Your street ' category of Bristol in Bloom 2009.This is the first time that the St George district of the city has won an award in the competition.
We also created a community garden on an area of neglected and overgrown land in Kensington Road .Part of the site was left as a natural area to cater for the needs of insects, nesting birds and other urban wildlife. After clearing and re- planting the area,we now have a garden that can be shared and enjoyed by everyone.
To enhance the entire project, Bristol City Council erected hanging baskets on the street lamp posts.
Alan & Grenville also achieved second place in ‘The Best House Frontage’ category.
Both awards were accompanied by Silver Gilt Certificates.
On Tuesday 22nd September 2009 we attended the Mansion House Bristol to receive the awards from The Lord Mayor of Bristol.

We acknowledge the kind permission of Councillor Ron Stone
(Bristol City Council) for allowing us to use his photographs that were taken at the award ceremony held on Tuesday 22nd September, 2009.
